Wii Game recalled because of word “Spastic”
By Steve | July 18, 2007
The other day I wrote about Nintendo recalling Mario Party 8 because there was a problem, “the wrong version of the disk due to an assembly error”. This must have been a big hassle as many copies were allready on the shelf, all shrinkwrapped and ready to go.
That was until someone noticed the word “Spastic” appeared on the screen during the game. While in some countries this word would be seen to describe something like shaking or jolting, in the UK and Ireland it is a word used to describe a person with a certain handicap and it is also used to taunt people.
Good recall from Nintendo I think. There are many kids in the UK and Ireland who may have been offended by this.
